ApologiaAcademy TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS


(For other class requirements, general supplies, lab supplies, textbooks, notes etc. please email the teacher. A supply list is also available when you register.)

Hardware Requirements

Recommended

Minimum

  • 2 GHz Intel, AMD, or G4 Processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 1 GB Free space on hard drive
  • Windows 2000 or Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
  • Mini-plug headset
  • 56K Dial-up Internet Connection (For a better experience, High Speed Internet is recommended)

Software Requirements

  • Browser: MS Internet Explorer 7.0 or (latest version by platform) is necessary for class.
  • Software Firewalls and Filters: All of the popular software firewalls and parental filters can be configured for the GW4 conferencing software. ApologiaAcademy does not provide any assistance with this configuration. Please see your firewall and filter documentation for configuration assistance.
  • Antivirus Utility: Families must run antivirus software on their incoming and outgoing email. Norton Internet Security package works well for protecting incoming and outgoing email and it is the utility that most families use.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader: All families must have the free downloadable Adobe Acrobat Reader version 9 or higher installed on their computers.
  • Unzipping Utility:Families need to have an unzipping file decompression utility such as WinZip for most classes with ApologiaAcademy Windows XP and Vista come with this capability built in and requires no separate utility be purchased.
  • Wordprocessing: Assignments MUST be saved and submitted as plain text using Wordpad (Windows), Notepad (Windows), or Textedit (Mac).


Science classes us GP4 (see below).
All Classes in the Bible, Apologetics, & Worldview Department use WebEx.
  1. To enter a class go to http://ApologiaAcademy.WebEx.com
  2. Choose the Daily, Weekly, or Monthly tab
  3. Click on the appropriate class
You will then be prompted to set it WebEx on your computer. You do not need to have an account.

Downloading the GP4 Software

Very Important!

  • Students DO NOT need to sign up for a GatherPlace account.
  • Always download the newest version except for special cases.
  • Go to the Help menu on GP4 to check for updates often.

Testing Your Computer

Before You Test

Audio Test

  1. Plug in your headset into the proper jacks.
  2. Double-click the GP4 icon on your Desktop. in your Applications folder.
  3. On the GP4 window, click the Audio Tuning Wizard button.
  4. On the Audio Tuning Wizard, click Start Test.
  5. If you hear the voice recording, click Yes.
    Otherwise, click No until you can hear the recording.
  6. If you hear the second recording, click Yes.
    Otherwise, click No and increase your speaker volume.
  7. For the third test, speak into your headset or microphone.
  8. If you hear yourself echo back, click Yes.
    Otherwise, click No until you can hear yourself echo back.
  9. Once you have passed all the tests, close the Audio Tuning Wizard.

Viewer Test

  1. Plug in your headset into the proper jacks.
  2. Click here (or here) to view the presentation test. You should see the presentation and hear the accompanying audio.
  3. Once the presentation is over, click Disconnect Everyone to end the test.
  4. If you see the presentation, but do not hear the audio, please perform the Audio Test (above) again and make sure your audio devices are configured properly.

If you are having trouble passing the all the tests, go to the File menu on GP4 and select Exit and start over. bring GP4 to the front and go to the gp4 menu and select Quit and start over.

  • If something seems wrong with your computer, get it repaired as soon as possible.
